Height 137.2 (Rossoshinsky heights). Borodino 1942
Few people know that some of the bloodiest battles on the outskirts of Stalingrad took place in the Rossoshek area. Now there is a large burial ground and a memorial to the fallen wars.
When we were in Rossoshki, despite the late spring, it was cold and an icy wind was blowing. And it seemed that there could be no other weather here. There is a huge cemetery of Russian soldiers on one side of the road, and a cemetery of German and Romanian soldiers on the other.
Excavations are still underway here, and new remains of soldiers are buried every year on August 23.
Why exactly 23? Because in 10 days of fighting since August 23, 1942, the 35th Guards Rifle Division, reflecting numerous enemy attacks on the outskirts of Stalingrad, lost 90 percent of its personnel!
Here I found the most complete and detailed article about the fighting in the Rossoshkin Heights area https://m.ok.ru/group/53831504101492/topic/65104873010548
In those days, the country learned about the feat of 33 Russian heroes of one of the units. For two days, 33 soldiers surrounded by a soldier of the 87th Infantry Division repelled an enemy attack at an altitude of 76.3 in the area of Malaya Rossoshka. Our 33rd war destroyed 27 tanks and up to 150 Hitlerites! All the warriors survived, only one of them was wounded, and some received burns from flamethrowers. The street "33 heroes" is named in honor of these heroes in Volgograd.
The book by the modern historian Anton Abramov "Stalin's Mesopotamia is dedicated to the battles in the Rossoshek area. Borodino - 1942".
In Rossoshki in 1942-43 there was also a camp of Soviet prisoners of war, tortured but not broken.
If you are in Volgograd, be sure to visit this place.
Eternal memory of our wars!
