The ice attraction of Kungur. Part One
The ice attraction of Kungur. Part One
What is the beauty of small towns? In special people, they are simple and welcoming. Upon arrival in Kungur, we checked into a hotel near the train station – for the convenience of logistics.
A caring manager here meets his guests at the station, brings them to the hotel for free, and after departure also takes them to the station. It also takes you to the main attraction, the Kungur Ice Cave, for free. It is unusual and very pleasant.
We were lucky. On the only day we were in Kungur, it was warm and sunny + 17. It was nice to walk. The first thing I noticed when we landed near the ice cave was the purest and tastiest air.
Unfortunately, in cities with millions of people, there has been no such luxury for a long time. And here, in a small town surrounded by forests, I wanted to stop and breathe in this air for a long time, slowly and with pleasure.
We arrived at the cave at 10 a.m., just before its opening, but decided to go on an excursion an hour later to watch a laser film during the tour. By the way, excursions in the cave are conducted daily.
We didn't get bored waiting. Near the cave there is a wonderful street museum of fairy-tale characters carved from wood. It took us an hour to look at them slowly and take pictures.
Finally, we stepped into a unique dungeon. The tour lasted 1 hour and 40 minutes. I would like to note that the peak growth of ice stalactites and stalagmites occurs in January – February.
Therefore, the ideal time to admire the icy beauty of the cave is February - March. And yet, even in May, we managed to capture a little bit of beauty, although the guide asked us not to stay in the icy grotto "Diamond" for a long time, so as not to provoke melting.
By the way, the maximum glaciation in the cave was in the 18th century. But winters become mild and warm and the boundaries of glaciation in the cave decrease.
By the way, those caves in which there is no ice and there is no ice are no less delightful and interesting. I will tell you more about them in the second part of my article.
