Discussing D. Orwell's novel "1984", sharing reviews
In our club of interests in reading, I would like to analyze the work of D. Orwell "1984". The novel belongs to the genre of dystopia, i.e. its events develop somewhere in the future fictional world.
The protagonist of the novel, Winston, works in a certain Ministry of Truth, in which he is engaged in correcting decrees and party documentation so that they correspond to new realities. He's one of the thousands of employees who work on making changes to the past so that people don't know their history. After all, the best way to exterminate a people is to distort and destroy its history.
Terror reigned in this imaginary society, "thought crime" - a terrible sin, which was punished by a terrible punishment. People who betrayed their true thoughts at least with a glance disappeared. All references to this person were destroyed. And everyone was afraid of being the next to disappear.
Everyone knew what happened to these people, but they never spoke about it out loud. Children reported on their parents, husbands on wives, brothers on sisters - the state encouraged this in every possible way.
And in all this darkness, the main character accidentally finds his love. Winston and his beloved swear fidelity to each other forever. When the secret police finds out about them, they pressure them to betray each other.
Rewriting history, pressure, persecution and extermination of dissidents - what all this reminds me of ... It is not surprising that the book is very relevant today.
