It's hard to be objective about the city where you were born and grew up, but I'll try).
Yaroslavl is considered to be the pearl of the Golden Ring: a city with a great history, it was founded in 1010, that is, a little later than Vladimir (990), but before Moscow (1147).
The symbol of the city is a bear with an axe. According to legend, the city was founded on the site of the battle of Prince Yaroslav the Wise with a bear. Yaroslav won the fight, and the bear became the symbol of the city.
Traveling around Yaroslavl, you will find many attractions:
1. The Kremlin, which now houses several museums and exhibitions, a valliere with a Bear Masha). Those who wish can climb the bell tower and admire the views of the city center from a bird's-eye view.
2. Two embankments: Volga and Kotorosli. The place of their meeting is called the arrow. The arrow is decorated with fountains, flower beds and the symbol of the city - a bear.
3. There are many historical buildings in the center of Yaroslavl, there are many pedestrian zones. A very useful thing if you travel without a guide, I advise you.
4. There are many churches, both ancient: the Church of the Epiphany, Elijah the Prophet, and new: Assumption Cathedral. There are Old Believers' temples, for example, the temple in Yakovlevskaya, and, of course, the famous Tolga Convent.
5. It is believed that the first Russian theater was founded in Yaroslavl by Fyodor Volkov. The theater building is still in operation today.
6. There are many museums, for example, the Museum of the History of the city, the museum-reserve, the art museum.
7. From relatively new places, I liked: the Museum of new chronology (a museum with modern interactive technologies, very interesting and a large amount of information, we were not quite ready, so I warn you, if you want to go from beginning to end and get acquainted with the materials, feel free to lay three hours), the Show layout of the Golden Ring – layouts of the main the sights of the cities of the Golden Ring, the roads, the moving trains between them, the change of day and night – a huge and masterly work! And, of course, the zoo is the largest landscape zoo in Russia, with a territory extending into the forest. Previously, it was possible to ride along the paths in a special car or even, I'm not afraid of this word, a carriage), now you can only walk. There is a petting zoo in the valliers with lambs, and this is a separate conversation: children, lambs and a lot of carrots)). Everyone is happy!
8. Wonderful sightseeing buses run from the Church of Elijah the Prophet. Thanks to them, on the last trip we did not get caught in a downpour and had a nice time riding the bus and listening to an electronic guide). Yes, and if when visiting other cities in the first place, we were often announced a beautiful fire tower, then on a tour of Yaroslavl they said about it in the queue last, this also says something)).
