The color of the city of Galich
The color of the city of Galich
I have never been to Galich. I may have heard of him once, but I certainly haven't studied his history. It was an accident that made me find out about him. The Novosibirsk – St. Petersburg train, on which I was traveling to the Northern capital, made a short stop in the city of Galich. From the window I saw an unusual train station with pointed turrets and beautiful large windows. A city with such a colorful train station simply cannot be boring, unremarkable and uninteresting, I thought and turned out to be right.
Galich is an ancient city in the Kostroma region, founded in 1159.
From the hill "Baltschug", where the city was born, there is a magnificent view of the city and one of its main attractions, Lake Galichskoye. There is a special observation deck.
In addition, on this peak there are the remains of the earthen ramparts of the fortress, which was built during the existence of the Finno-Ugric tribes.
Lake Galichskoye is a picturesque large pond rich in fish.
By the way, the city can be called a fishing town. The historic district of Rybnaya Sloboda, with simple wooden houses and fishermen's housing, is still preserved here. Surprisingly, almost all of these wooden buildings - monuments of architecture remain residential.
And today, the trade in gifts of the Galich Lake is still flourishing in the city.
Among the unusual buildings in the city, it is worth noting the fire tower.
It is a four-meter tall building of a bizarre shape with a round observation deck. The fire station was built at the end of the 19th century and it is still in operation.
Also among the sights of the city, it is worth noting the famous shopping malls – one-story buildings, which housed merchants' shops and trade several centuries ago. The buildings were built in 1825, have become one of the symbols of the city, they are maintained in good condition and there is still trade in them.
You can admire in Galich the ancient male Nikolaevsky Starotozhsky monastery, as well as the women's monastery, the oldest of all preserved in the Kostroma region. It was founded in the 14th century in the Assumption settlement, which is now part of the city district.

While traveling, I collect a photo collection of original monuments in Russian cities. In Galich, for example, there are several such: a scaled-down copy of the Galichanin crane located near the crane equipment plant and a real tracked tractor produced at Soviet factories in the middle of the last century.
So, after reading about the city and seeing enough vivid photos, I immediately wanted to visit it. I advise you to feel the flavor of a small but very original Russian town.
