Zhelezny Izhevsk

Do not expect a gloss from Izhevsk. The armory capital and the birthplace of famous Soviet motorcycles and cars is colorful in its severity.

Entrance to the city

We visited there for the first time in the summer of 2024. When we visited the capital of Udmurtia, we were puzzled by the dreariness of the buildings and the greyness of the city.

Closer to the center, of course, the picture becomes more positive. Although the new beautiful building, the hotel in which we settled, for example, is adjacent to a brick building with traces of ruin.

From the window of the hotel room, we watched the river in the sunlight and a modest but neat embankment. 

By the way, in the Izhevsk hotel, I unexpectedly came across a book diamond - a book of myths, legends and fairy tales of the Udmurt people. I have a literary hobby - I collect books of fairy tales of the peoples of the world and small nationalities of Russia. A unique book, published in only a thousand copies, is now in my collection.

We went on a gastronomic tour to one of the dumplings located on the central square. Udmurts believe that this dish was invented in their homeland. The proud phrase is emblazoned right on the door of the cafe. And next to it is a saucepan about one and a half meters high. Of course, we tried a variety of types of dumplings: fried with meat, boiled with fish and minced chicken. I will not say that they are tastier than Novosibirsk ones, but they are good in their own way.

We had only half a day to walk around Izhevsk. During this time, we walked along the embankment, looking at the bizarre metal sculptures and the monument "Friendship of Peoples", admired the magnificent building of St. Michael's Cathedral, took pictures on the central square of the city with the mascot of the city "Izhik".

By the way, I saw the most unusual sign on the Izhevsk embankment, which I had never seen anywhere before. I called him to myself, "Don't peel the seeds!"

Of course, we have not visited many places, we have not seen many things. Weapons Museum, retro technology Museum, temples, parks, zoo, theaters… Yes, it is impossible to embrace the immensity in one incomplete day. So, there is something to return to this city for again.

By the way, the more often I travel around Russia, the more I visit its various cities and towns, the more firmly I am convinced that there are no uninteresting places in our country. Each has its own zest. I found it in Izhevsk-2024 in metal artifacts of parts that turned into bizarre animals, robots and machines.
