One of Agatha Christie's most famous detective novels is set on the Orient Express train. Events take place in winter, so the train gets stuck on the way in Yugoslavia due to a snow storm, which paralyzes the train for several days. At this moment, a mysterious murder occurs in one of the compartments: the doors are closed from the inside, the victim did not scream, 12 stabs, which were inflicted at different angles.
As always by the way, it turned out that the famous hero of detective stories, the Belgian Hercule Poirot, was also on his way to London on the Orient Express. In the absence of other activities in the stuck cars, he takes up his favorite business: unraveling all the threads of this cunning ball.
The book keeps in suspense until the last page, the character of each hero is only slightly ajar, the intrigue, as well as the unexpected denouement, are revealed only at the very end. The work is notable for the fact that only here the magnificent Poirot gave up his principle of mandatory punishment for the criminal. The non-trivial circumstances of this murder were surprising even for such a professional.
In the detective story, many details are based and described on real events. For example, Agatha Christie herself, before writing this book, traveled on the Orient Express and carefully checked all the details: opening and closing windows, the direction of door handles, the locking system, and many other details that perfectly complemented the work.
