Fyodor Dostoevsky "The Idiot" - reviews | iLike

The novel by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky "The Idiot" is considered one of the author's most controversial works. He was coolly received by his contemporaries, but later, at the beginning of the 20th century, the great philosophers of our time - Stefan Zweig, Friedrich Nietzsche, built their works, including based on the moral image of the heroes of this novel. The book is written in a theatrical style: with a detailed description of the setting, clearly defined dialogues of the characters, and the ability to present each episode as a small scene.
The protagonist of the novel is Prince Myshkin, who returns to Russia after a long epilepsy treatment in Switzerland. Along the way, he meets Prince Rogozhin, with whom warm friendly relations are established. A new acquaintance tells him about Nastasya Filippovna, whom he bought jewelry with diamonds as a gift. In a series of meetings, actions and confessions, a love polygon arises, as a result of which Rogozhin kills Nastasya Filippovna at the end of the book, and the main character truly loses his mind.
Prince Myshkin in the book appears as a kind of prophet. He is a man of rare purity of soul, which is perceived by many as idiocy. Myshkin does not participate in behind-the-scenes intrigues and, with his integrity, helps to expose many human vices. Dostoevsky deliberately creates the image of a “positively beautiful person”, whose openness, honesty and mercy are perceived by society as a symptom of a well-known disease. The prince is trying to change the state of things, to show the path to enlightenment, but the vices surrounding him turn out to be too strong and, as a result, Myshkin really goes crazy.
The Idiot by Dostoevsky leaves an indelible impression, it is not easy to read because of the large number of acting characters. However, the kaleidoscope of feelings that arise after reading is striking in its scale and depth. Tell us what do you remember about the novel of the great Russian writer?
