Mikhail Bulgakov "Morphine" - impressions

Morphine is a highly autobiographical work by Mikhail Bulgakov. He also had a drug addiction in his life for several years. This is a story about the worst days in the life of any drug addict - withdrawal. The young doctor is forced to receive pain medication, which quietly begins to devour his body and soul from the inside. He tries to drown out the physical and emotional pain.
Unlike the author, the hero of the work could not cope with his problem and breaks down, having gone through several stages of accepting himself as a disintegrated personality.
Unfortunately, this short novel is not included in the compulsory school curriculum, but its topicality only increases even after hundreds of years. The author's wonderful style, which can fit into a short story all the horror and disgust for any kind of addiction. Each sentence is filled with deep feelings and vivid emotions that go from euphoria to cold horror in just a few lines.
A parallel line is the story of the formation of a young doctor who, literally from his student days, is sent to the forefront of village medicine, where literally from the first days all possible difficulties of adaptation fall upon him. The hero has to make difficult decisions vital for his patients, relying only on his own knowledge. Oddly enough, but fear, which did not leave him for a minute, helped in making decisions. Perhaps it was he who became the impetus for addiction, because it was morphine that removed all the problems like a hand.
“Morphine” by Mikhail Bulgakov - reviews as an ageless classic of the 20th century. Her genius lies in the volume of conflicting feelings, which is difficult to imagine how the author managed to describe in a short work. Recommended reading for our book lovers!
